Cars do not yield pedestrians crossing in the crosswalk.

From "Street Safety Concerns"

Go to the project

The cars turning at this intersection, often turn on red even though there is a sign stating that you should not. Even though it’s across from the police station. Cars turning right onto Prince Street from Chestnut are constantly a danger to pedestrians crossing at this intersection. I should know I was hit by a car while walking through this intersection doing everything I could possibly do right. No headphones. Not on my phone. Nothing that I was doing to distract me while walking. I looked before crossing. I walked in the crosswalk- I did not jaywalk. I walked when the person on the walk sign said it was OK for me to walk and still someone turned and hit me. This driver was negligent. I am not the only one this has happened to, when I tell people about this story- tons of people tell me how they almost got hit at this intersection, how a car almost got them! Everyone-parents with their babies in strollers, families crossing together, individual adults I’ve talked to, students going to PACAD.. this is a very dangerous intersection and something else needs to be done to make it safer for pedestrians.
