Concrete skatepark

I strongly support the proposal for a poured-in-place concrete skate park at Reservoir Park.

I regularly take my five-year-old son to Lititz’s skate park, and it’s become one of our favorite places to spend time together. What stands out most isn’t just the skating, it’s the community. On any given visit you’ll find kids on skateboards, scooters, and bikes alongside teenagers, parents, and experienced skaters all sharing the same space. It’s one of the few public places where people of different ages naturally interact, encourage one another, and build confidence together. Skateboarding and scootering have become genuine family activities, and the sense of community these parks create is incredibly valuable.

A high-quality, poured-in-place concrete park would give Lancaster families a durable, welcoming public space that will serve residents for decades. These parks are proven community assets, attracting beginners and experienced riders alike while providing healthy outdoor recreation in a positive, self-organizing environment.

I also believe Lancaster is falling behind neighboring communities in this area. Cities much smaller than ours have invested in exceptional skate parks that have become regional destinations. If Hagerstown, Maryland can build a world-class skate park, Lancaster should absolutely be able to do the same. Our city has a strong culture of parks, recreation, and active transportation, and a first-class skate park would fit naturally within that vision.

Lancaster has an opportunity to create something that isn’t just a recreational amenity, but a lasting investment in young people, families, and community. I hope you’ll support bringing a valuable community asset like a poured-in-place skate park to Reservoir Park.
