Dangerous crosswalk, drivers ignore pedestrians

There is a pedestrian crossing light, but i have had cars almost hit me on multiple occasions. When crossing South to north and North to South drivers on President turning east onto Columbia either ignore pedestrians or don't see them.

People are in patient. I feel like if someone clicks the crosswalk button they should have a 15-20 second walk countdown without any green light for President's Ave. Otherwise, it should still give the walk symbol and a 10 second countdown. And include signage for walkers encouraging them to use the button.
