Hello neighbors!
We are grateful for the feedback you’ve been providing on Engage Lancaster regarding the Artful Intersection over the past few weeks. Our top priority is creating safe and accessible facilities for pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorists, and we take your concerns seriously. Staff members from the Bureau of Police and Department of Public Works took another look at the intersection and we are making the following changes, effectively immediately:
• expanding the width of the lanes to accommodate two passing vehicles
• moving the new stop sign on W. Vine Street down the hill a bit to increase visibility
• adding stop bars (thick white line on the pavement to designate where a vehicle should stop) and STOP pavement markings on both legs of Vine Street to highlight that there is a stop ahead.
The delineators are meant to help motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists navigate the new traffic pattern and will stay up temporarily. They will be removed on Monday, November 29, or prior to the first plowable snowfall – whichever comes first.
Please remember that this is a pilot project. We are continuously monitoring the effectiveness of the intersection and these new changes, and we appreciate your patience and cooperation as our staff work across departments to determine solutions. As the City explores new and innovative ways to improve pedestrian and traffic safety throughout Lancaster, we welcome your continued comments on Engage Lancaster.
We will follow up shortly with an FAQ about the intersection to help address additional questions and concerns.
Is it safer for bicyclists? ¿Es más seguro para los ciclistas?

There is nothing safe about this the way it is now. A stop sign coming up vine is a bad idea. This intersection will be much worse in the winter. The one lane that is a two way abut got me hit this week.

A two lane road has been turned I to one lane. That will ALWAYS make it more dangerous for bikes.
