Raised crosswalks at alleys and secondary streets
From "A Stronger Lancaster: Submit Your Ideas"
Go to the project
Raised crosswalks increase their visibility, induce drivers to slow down, and prevent puddling and trash collection at the crossing. This make for a much safer and more pleasant crossing.

I agree with your first two reasons. But how does a raised crosswalk prevent puddling? It blocks the normal flow of stormwater flow (and snowmelt). Additional drains would be needed to prevent this puddling. Probably not a difficult task since virtually every street already has curbside drains, which means the underground pipes are already there.

@Bill Hoffman Does the city have any raised crosswalks? I feel like trash/debris flows to the storm drains in most of the streets I walk past. I always see a waterbottles, soda can, leaves, and other trash in the storm drains.

Curious to see if there are studies on this. Are we basically adding in speed humps that double as crosswalks at intersections? I know the one on King St. could use a speed hump since middle of the block on a busy road can be hard to see pedestrians coming out from cars parked on the st. Especially where it turns to three lanes there at market.
