stop sign needed at New Dauphin and Board Street
From "Broad & Chesapeake Streets Corridor Project"
Go to the project
Please add a stop sign at New Dauphin and Broad Street, otherwise there is no reasons for cars to slow down driving south on Broad street. Have you ever tried to cross the street at that intersection? Stop signs would help because it's very dangerous right now.

@Bill Hoffman Have you ever tried to cross Broad street at New Dauphin as a pedestrian? It's a life and death game of Frogger. I doesn't matter how raised the cross walk is or how bright the flashing lights will be. It will not slow cars down driving south on that section of Broad street. The city has designed the road to be wider than necessary too which will not help speeds.

@Emily Wilson Flashing lights and an accented crosswalk are reasonable. Unfortunately, the device that would help greatly--a HAWK beacon--is not approved for use in PA. This device turns yellow, then red, when someone pushes a button to cross the street.

Stop signs are not supposed to be used for speed control, although many municipalities do it. A stop sign for southbound Broad St. is problematical--if the street is icy it could be impossible to stop, and if it's not, you will have noise from squealing brakes and from acceleration from the stop sign. Northbound, if the hill is icy, cars starting out from a stop sign at New Dauphin might have trouble getting up the hill.

Agreed. Thank you for bringing this up, Emily. There is a pedestrian crosswalk there which could be accentuated with new paint, a flashing signal, more signage, etc. if a stop sign is unadvisable. Also, there is no safe way to connect the sidewalk there to the Conestoga River Greenway trail (no sidewalk, very narrow berm).
