street safety

From "South Duke Street Mobility"

Go to the project

I was pleased to see that consideration is being given to south Duke St improvements. I recall the excitement, over a decade ago, when other nice things were happening south of Duke.

I'm asking that the one hundred block of S Duke be included in the safety study. Having lived in the area for 40 years, I've seen so many accidents in that block...all speed related. 1) All the original (except 1) iron, antique street lamps have been knocked off on the west side. 2) My home, and several others, have been crashed into. 3) Several residents and trees have been struck . 4) Residents of the two high rises, in the area of Church St, routinely use the street in their wheelchairs.

For consideration: Photos of this 100 block, in 1960s, show that it had parking on both sides and that two way travel began at Vine St, rather than Church St.

Thank you for your interest and consideration.

The two southbound lanes merge to one at Church St. Perhaps earlier markings, to merge right, might eliminate those who rip out, at traffic light, to enter the now one southbound lane.
