Traffic/child safety and residential parking solution

From "Street Safety Concerns"

Go to the project

Drivers frequently travel down this residential block at unsafe speeds, despite the fact that many children live and play in the neighborhood. Throughout the day, children are outside riding bicycles, playing, walking to and from school, and crossing the street. With McCaskey High School, nearby middle schools, and elementary schools in the area, pedestrian traffic is especially heavy before and after school. Speeding vehicles create a dangerous environment, and many residents are concerned that it is only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured.

I respectfully request that the City evaluate this area for additional school crossing guards, increased speed enforcement, traffic-calming measures such as speed humps or speed feedback signs, and any other improvements that would help make our neighborhood safer.

I would also like to address the ongoing parking issues on the 600 block of East Madison Street. Street parking has become extremely congested, and residents often struggle to find parking near their own homes. A significant number of vehicles appear to belong to individuals who do not reside on our block, leaving very limited parking for residents and their visitors.

I have contacted the City on multiple occasions regarding this issue, but to date, no solution has been implemented. I respectfully ask the City to evaluate whether a residential parking permit program or other parking management measures would be appropriate for our neighborhood to help ensure that residents have reasonable access to parking near their homes.

Our neighborhood deserves safe streets for our children and fair access to parking for the people who live here. I appreciate your time and consideration and hope these concerns can be addressed through a thorough review of the area.

I feel like your issue should be broken up into two issues. One with the speeding and safety concerns, the other with the parking permit issues.
