Hello neighbors! We are grateful for the feedback you’ve been providing on Engage Lancaster regarding the Artful Intersection over the past few weeks. Our top priority is creating safe and accessible facilities for pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorists, and we take your concerns seriously. Staff members from the Bureau of Police and Department of Public Works took another look at the intersection and we are making the following changes, effectively immediately:
• expanding the width of the lanes to accommodate two passing vehicles
• moving the new stop sign on W. Vine Street down the hill a bit to increase visibility
• adding stop bars (thick white line on the pavement to designate where a vehicle should stop) and STOP pavement markings on both legs of Vine Street to highlight that there is a stop ahead.
The delineators are meant to help motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists navigate the new traffic pattern and will stay up temporarily. They will be removed on Monday, November 29, or prior to the first plowable snowfall – whichever comes first.
Please remember that this is a pilot project. We are continuously monitoring the effectiveness of the intersection and these new changes, and we appreciate your patience and cooperation as our staff work across departments to determine solutions. As the City explores new and innovative ways to improve pedestrian and traffic safety throughout Lancaster, we welcome your continued comments on Engage Lancaster.
We will follow up shortly with an FAQ about the intersection to help address additional questions and concerns.

I love the colorful and pleasing artwork but it may not be fulfilling one of its main missions of making the intersection less confusing for drivers.

I love the design! So bright and fun! The bollards are quite distracting though and confusing on the road.

The artwork is cute and the art installation day was fun. However, the bollards are ugly and very confusing for traffic, pedestrians and the cabbage hill community. It's very sad to see the bollards up after the multiple discussions not to have them in every project team meetings and but ended up having them without any final consultation... It feels like we were not heard and what the community thinks doesn't matter...
I live RIGHT in front of the intersection and work from home. I hear consistent and increased car honking and see drivers with frustrated expressions and yelling to each other. ;(
Please re-consider this situation. Thank you,

It is great! The artwork is gorgeous and should stay. The bollards need to go stat or there will be an accident there.

Beautiful mural, but the bollards detract from it and make traffic confusing.

The art work it’s self looks okay. The delineaters installed around the one on strawberry hill makes it not look foot at all. It also narrows down the intersection, I drive through here all the time and feel bad for the neighbors. This space was a great place for people to pull over to unload, get around trash trucks etc. also there is parking being taken up by this an we have been trying to make more parking not take it away etc.

The paintings are beautiful. The bollards ruin it. It looks like it's under construction, makes the intersection confusing and dangerous.
