Queen Street at the train station should be a welcoming entrance to the city

John Gardosik•4 years ago Crossing McGovern is currently unpleasant and unsafe. The intersection should be reconfigured to prioritize pedestrians with real crosswalks on both sides. High quality sidewalks should extend down both sides of Queen Street.

Create a core set of high frequency bus routes

John Gardosik•4 years ago Two or three lines that operate a minimum of every 10 minutes 7 days a week that serve Downtown and the train station, but also provide access from the neighborhoods.

Fund street trees where they are missing

John Gardosik•4 years ago The city should pursue every option to ensure that every block in the city has enough trees to provide shade and comfort. Work with property owners to add trees in the ROW, curb extensions, and private front yards. Prioritize the protection of existing old growth trees *and* the addition of new trees in under-treed blocks.

Narrow traffic lanes on Harrisburg Ave and add bike lanes

John Gardosik•4 years ago Lanes are too wide and encourage speeding, and this would be a useful bike connection. Alternatively, the extra space could be used for tree planting and additional street parking.

Create a true park/plaza in front of the train station

John Gardosik•4 years ago A true space to gather and maybe host small markets rather than just walk past idling cars

Incentivize small-scale corner stores

John Gardosik•4 years ago Develop expedited permitting and financial assistance for local small businesses to open at corner locations throughout the city. Re-activate former corner stores and develop new corner retail wherever possible.

Create a pedestrian connection under 222 b/w train station and Lititz ave

John Gardosik•4 years ago More safe pedestrian connections to the train station will make it more comfortable and useful.

Expand bike share

John Gardosik•4 years ago Create a station grid that ensures that you are never more than a 5 minute walk to a bike station. Improve station design and tie station location to both major destinations *and* residential concentrations. Work with surrounding municipalities to create a consistent county-wide network with concentrations in places like Columbia and Lititz.

Revitalized Fulton Market

John Gardosik•4 years ago Why give up on this? This part of the city is underserved for retail and groceries and *anything* the city can do to revitalize this fantastic building would be worthwhile.

Prioritize pedestrians at Duke and Liberty

John Gardosik•4 years ago This intersection is actively hostile to people trying to cross it, despite being a block from the train station. Removing a right-turn lane (bringing it down to one), narrowing lanes, and adding street trees would all go a long way to make this intersection safer *and* more pleasant for the people who live here.

Better lighting, sidewalks, and trees along the stadium circle

John Gardosik•4 years ago Treat the circle around the stadium as a true extension of Frederick and Clay. Add consistent sidewalks, street trees, and pedestrian-scale lighting.

Add lighting and art installation to make the Plum St underpass feel safer

John Gardosik•4 years ago Making non-car connectivity across the train tracks better, safer, and more welcoming everywhere possible should be a priority.

Raised crosswalks at alleys and secondary streets

John Gardosik•4 years ago Raised crosswalks increase their visibility, induce drivers to slow down, and prevent puddling and trash collection at the crossing. This make for a much safer and more pleasant crossing.

Add a roundabout

John Gardosik•4 years ago Five point intersections are difficult to deal with without them. This could also serve as a welcome to the city for people crossing the track on Marth and help link to the (hopefully soon) rehabbed Stehli Mill.

Create a city-wide EV charging network

John Gardosik•4 years ago Install chargers in every public garage and lot. Work with owners of private lots to install chargers. Install public chargers in ROW on blocks with limited off-street parking.

Clay Street Greenway

John Gardosik•4 years ago Use curb extensions, narrower lanes, street trees, and more protected crossings to make a safe, pleasant connection across the city to the stadium.

Plum Street Promenade

John Gardosik•4 years ago Give Ross a safe, attractive, pleasant Main Street. More trees, safer crossings, and a scenic connection from across the tracks to to New Holland Ave.Develop a small-scale retail incentives program to build up commercial and restaurant activity along this corridor.

Franklin Street Greenway

John Gardosik•4 years ago Through a combination of narrower lanes, curb extensions, bike lanes, protected intersections, and additional street trees, Franklin could serve as a safe and pleasant N-S route on the east side of the city.

Narrow Liberty between Lime and Plum

John Gardosik•4 years ago These two blocks of Liberty are much wider than they need to be, even just to keep two lanes of traffic + 2 parking lanes. Narrower lanes could allow more space for wider sidewalks and street trees. Plum Street offers the best bypass for the train tracks (given how unpleasant/unsafe the Prince and Duke bridges are) for people on foot and bike, and this could help lead into that.

Safer crossing for Ross across Queen

John Gardosik•4 years ago This is an elementary school. Curb extensions and stop signs would make this crossing safer and reinforce that people need to slow down here even when there's no crossing guard.

Add a roundabout at Franklin and Park

John Gardosik•4 years ago This is a massive, confusing intersection with way too much pavement. A roundabout could clarify it and remove some excess pavement.

Safer crossing at Duke and Ross

John Gardosik•4 years ago Cars speed through this intersection coming off the bridge. Some combination of stop signs/lights and curb extensions to shorten crossing distances would make this intersection much safer,
