Ann & Juniata Streetscape and Safety Improvements

Help design intersection and streetscape improvements to improve safety for all users of Ann and Juniata streets and beautify this historic neighborhood.

A Community Driven Project

This project is being conducted in response to initial input from neighborhood residents, South Ann Concerned Neighbors, SACA, data through the City’s Block Strength Indicator and Litter Index, and findings from a walking audit conducted by City staff during the 2021 Mayor’s Neighborhood Week.

Location and Scope of the Project

The project will include safety improvements at the intersections of South Ann and New Dauphin Streets and South Ann and Juniata Streets. It will also include streetscape improvements along South Ann Street (between New Dauphin and Juniata Streets) and Juniata Street (between Rockland Street and Stevens Avenue). See the map below.

Improvements may include: traffic calming at the two intersections, ADA ramps, lighting improvements, public art, tiny trash cans, historical markers, and benches in the project area.

Help Create Final Designs

We need your input to ensure final designs reflect the needs and interests of the community, including elements that honor the neighborhood’s historical significance. See below for more information on how you can be involved.

Preliminary Planning

June 1, 2023 - July 31, 2023

During this phase we're conducting an assessment of existing conditions in the project area.

Things we look at are:

  • Adopted plans, including the county-wide Active Transportation Plan and the Vision Zero Action Plan
  • Intersections
  • Traffic control devices including signals and stop signs
  • Motor vehicle traffic volume and circulation
  • On-street parking locations
  • Pedestrian access and bike circulation issues
  • Street lighting
  • Landscaping
  • Drainage

We'll use this information to develop a Concept Plan which will be shared with the public during the next phase of this project.
