Ann & Juniata Streetscape and Safety Improvements
Help design intersection and streetscape improvements to improve safety for all users of Ann and Juniata streets and beautify this historic neighborhood.
A Community Driven Project
This project is being conducted in response to initial input from neighborhood residents, South Ann Concerned Neighbors, SACA, data through the City’s Block Strength Indicator and Litter Index, and findings from a walking audit conducted by City staff during the 2021 Mayor’s Neighborhood Week.
Location and Scope of the Project
The project will include safety improvements at the intersections of South Ann and New Dauphin Streets and South Ann and Juniata Streets. It will also include streetscape improvements along South Ann Street (between New Dauphin and Juniata Streets) and Juniata Street (between Rockland Street and Stevens Avenue). See the map below.
Improvements may include: traffic calming at the two intersections, ADA ramps, lighting improvements, public art, tiny trash cans, historical markers, and benches in the project area.
Help Create Final Designs
We need your input to ensure final designs reflect the needs and interests of the community, including elements that honor the neighborhood’s historical significance. See below for more information on how you can be involved.

Here's what we heard from the community: Speeding cars pose a danger to people crossing the street, particularly young students on their way to or from school. Street safety and intersection improvements are needed in this area. Sidewalks are not always in good condition, which make it difficult for people in wheelchairs to use; sidewalks should be replaced. Parts of the streets are dark and need additional lighting. Public trashcans would help keep the area clean. More plants and trees would beautify the area.
Here's what the project might include: New concrete sidewalks and ADA accessible ramps (ramps that allow people with mobility disabilities to move from the street to the sidewalk at intersections). Lighting along sidewalks, particularly to light the sidewalk and street crossings. Intersection treatment at Ann & Juniata Streets that would use different texture or color to draw attention to it and help to slow drivers. Gateway art or historical markers. Additional trees and trash cans. Please see images below.
The City of Lancaster currently has $450,000 for this project. The cost of proposed improvements will likely exceed this amount, so improvements may occur in phases while additional funding is secured.
