Broad & Chesapeake Streets Corridor Project

The City of Lancaster is committed to increasing livability in our neighborhoods by making walking and biking safer. One way to achieve this is by creating an interconnected network of pedestrian and bicycle lanes and off-street trails. These facilities will increase connectivity, provide safer and more convenient options for bicyclists, and create more opportunities to commute, get to local businesses, and recreate.

The City’s bike network aims to connect all neighborhoods by utilizing a variety of facilities. See a map of the City's bicycle network.

The Broad & Chesapeake Streets Corridor Project will include safety and traffic calming improvements along 1.6 miles of Broad & Chesapeake Streets, with a significant focus on intersections. It will add separated bicycle facilities throughout most of the corridor, connecting the City's east end and south side and creating convenient access to major educational and recreational facilities. The corridor is bookended by the McCaskey High School Campus at the northern/eastern end and S. Queen Street at the southern/western end. The route also connects destinations such as Washington Elementary School, Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology, Reservoir Park, the Conestoga Greenway trail, the Duke Street Mall, and County Park.

This project is part of the City of Lancaster's Vision Zero initiative promoting traffic & pedestrian safety and is informed by the Lancaster County-wide Active Transportation Plan.
