Milburn Park

KABOOM! and the City of Lancaster are partnering with the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and the Pennsylvania Municipal League to redesign Milburn Park! Part of the redesign will be a brand new play structure! Students from King Elementary, Phoenix Academy, Washington Elementary, and Boys & Girls Club provided the initial feedback used to create two proposed playground designs. Input from the neighborhood and local kids will help us finalize the design of the play structure and the park.

Proposed Playground Equipment Designs

Playground A

In Playground A, this design is all about tandem/group play. When talking to the kids, almost every kid shared that the most important part of playing outside is playing with friends. We wanted a structure that encourages both togetherness and competition. You’ll see on this design a structure with lots of group play opportunities! The structure is a square, providing an infinite looping play opportunity for kids to play and chase each other. All the slides are double wide, and group play opportunities also exist in the we-saw and curva spinner!

Playground B

In Playground B, this design is all about imagination play and playground games. We saw lots of volcanoes, jungles, treehouses, and oceans as kids imagined their dream play space. We wanted a structure that can be explored in new ways and allows kids imaginations to run wild each time they use it, and be perfect for all their favorite tag and hide-and-seek games. This playground uses Landscape Structure’s Evos product line to provide a more abstract playground structure and non-prescriptive play opportunity!
