River Connections: Stories of Lancastrians Connections to Water
The City of Lancaster is excited to embark on creating a curated collection of stories about Lancastrians' connections to the Conestoga River and to water and nature. These stories will center the experiences of people of color in our community.
What's your story?
People of color in Lancaster City have a long and often cherished history and relationship with the Conestoga River; however, most of these connections are not well known. We want to change that.
The City of Lancaster will be collecting stories, both oral and written, in the coming months. By collecting these stories, and sharing them with others in the community, we honor this important part of our collective heritage and history, and continue to build a community of stewards for this valued natural resource.
Everyone is welcome to share their own story of their connection to the Conestoga River, water, and nature in Lancaster City below! Click on the map at a location meaningful to you or the 'add contribution' button.

The stories we collect will be used to honor Lancaster City's history and heritage, uplift stories not often spotlighted, and showcase our community's connection to water. The stories will be shared publicly for all to enjoy.
Some stories will be transformed into various types of media, art, and performances.
